Arbor Green Nursery, situated in the heart of the city, embraces the Froebelian Approach, inspired by Friedrich Froebel, a pioneering nineteenth-century educator who advocated for children to play and explore in contact with nature. The nursery aims to provide first-class outdoor education in a serene and welcoming environment, offering enriched learning experiences, support, and, most importantly, fun for the children of Arbor Green and their families.
Arbor Green Nursery believes in creating a nurturing environment where children are safe, valued, and encouraged to learn and grow every day. Emphasising positive, caring relationships built on trust and respect, the nursery follows the philosophy that children learn best through self-activity, rich firsthand experiences, problem-solving, play, and communication.
To ensure the well-being of the children under their care, Arbor Green has stringent measures in place, including comprehensive staff training, CCTV surveillance, and regular risk assessments. These efforts, coupled with their commitment to creating a secure and safe environment, demonstrate the nursery’s dedication to protecting children’s health and development.
Outdoor education lies at the core of Arbor Green Nursery’s curriculum, allowing children to learn in and from nature. With various learning areas within a spacious garden, children are encouraged to explore, problem-solve, and engage in open-ended exploration. The nursery’s extensive garden features a diverse range of fruits and vegetables, fostering a deeper connection to nature and promoting healthy eating habits among the children.
At Arbor Green, freshly picked ingredients take centre stage in the meals prepared by their experienced chef. Children actively participate in picking and preparing food, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of the food they consume. Forest School sessions further enrich the learning experience, promoting holistic growth and instilling confidence and independence in the children.
Following Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, the nursery aims to develop successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective communicators. Located in Stockbridge, opposite the Water of Leith, and a short stroll from the Edinburgh neighbourhood of Inverleith with its expansive park and Royal Botanic Gardens, Arbor Green Nursery offers a convenient and picturesque setting for children to learn and thrive.
