David Blaikie graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1987 and gained experience in a wide variety of architectural fields working for prominent larger and smaller Architect practices in Edinburgh.
From the larger practices he gained an understanding of the priorities of commercial clients and the practice skills for conducting higher value projects. From the smaller practices he gained an appreciation of conceptual design and the contribution careful detailing has to the success of a project.
He established his practice in 1992 and over the following 20 years has developed a reputation for sensitive conservation and adaptation of Edinburgh’s listed buildings and for strong contemporary architecture.
David, in collaboration with Edinburgh Napier University, has been developing an off-site manufactured central service core to improve the performance and sustainability of modern, volume house building called e.CORE.
e.CORE was included in the house building system called Future Affordable that was built as part of the prestigious Housing Innovation Showcase 2012 and has been shortlisted for the Scottish Home Awards 2012 – Environmental Excellence and the Saltire Society Housing Design Awards – Housing Innovation.
