Founded by George Mewes in 2010, George Mewes Cheese established its first shop in Glasgow’s vibrant West End. Rejecting the ordinary, the shop specialises in sourcing internationally acclaimed artisanal cheeses from small producers who share a passion for quality and craftsmanship.
In 2015, George Mewes Cheese expanded its reach to Scotland’s capital, opening its doors at 3 Dean Park Street in the Edinburgh neighbourhood of Stockbridge. The Dean Park Street location represents the epitome of cheese storage and presentation, boasting state-of-the-art refrigeration and specially designed interiors by Andy Whyte at Lucid Architecture. With counters and shelves crafted from Welsh slate and spruce, and a meticulously controlled environment reminiscent of a cheese cave, the shop ensures that its cheeses are stored and matured to perfection.
The team of highly-trained cheesemongers at their Dean Park Street shop shares a commitment to excellence. Possessing in-depth knowledge of the extensive cheese selection, they are always ready to assist customers in finding their perfect match. From creamy Alp Blossom from Bavaria, Germany to Norway’s rich Gjetost and tangy Black Bomber from Wales, the cheeses are meticulously curated to delight the senses and satisfy the palate.
