As the sign says, ‘Just what Stockbridge needs, another Coffee Shop!’. Grounds Coffeeshop opened it’s doors last week, and their social media presence already has people talking. Pictures of delicious cake, fresh bread and perfect latte art are enough to make the Edinburgh twitterati drool, but it is also their focus on local produce and their penchant for tongue-in-cheek humour that marks them out from the usual city coffeeshops.

Spurred by a passion for supporting local and getting the best from their suppliers, Grounds is built around a singular focus – to make the customer happy. The team attempt to mesh together great food and great coffee while showcasing local artwork and produce on their shelves. Using Glasgow roasters Dear Green, and bakeries such as Manna House and the new-kid-on-the-block Grams, there is a great mix of naughty and nice in the cake selection, all available to be washed down with a well-treated cup of joe.

For Breakfast and Lunch, the offering is simple but tasty, and this has been designed with the view of letting the ingredients shine. Soups, salads and sandwiches are the main fare, but with eye-catching fillings and flavours, there is a definite focus on being exciting with food. Currently on the menu are big steaming bowls of porridge topped with cinnamon-spiced cranberry compote, chicken and avocado bagels and vibrant salads which change daily. In the cake department, dietary needs are fully catered for, as gluten-free and vegan cakes are always well-stocked.

Owned by Tony Jennet, a local businessman and Stockbridge local for many years, Grounds is small but designed to be functional and comfortable. Although it joins the many cafes in Stockbridge, its focus on seasonal and local are sure to resonate with customers, as will its small but friendly team of staff.
