From 2-27 March 2022, houseplant care store, Hilda, will create a magical pop-up shop at Space at Seventeen in Stockbridge, helping people create a thriving houseplant oasis in their homes with beautiful, well-designed accessories, tools, and techniques. All with the friendly guidance of founder and houseplant expert, Rosanna Costello.
Rosanna uses her background as a designer to handpick objects made by fellow independent designers and makers. The space will be full of these interesting and functional items, from plant cosies made from New Zealand wool, to cork planters that use sustainable Portuguese cork, to a hand-polished copper watering can forged using traditional British manufacturing methods.

The philosophy behind Hilda is to slow down and plant up. An area of the store will be a dedicated ‘Houseplant Hospital’ where anyone can come to re-pot, gently prune and nourish their houseplants with Rosanna’s expert help. There will also be propagations (plant cuttings) and houseplants available for purchase to turn your home into a lush, green haven.
In creating Hilda, Rosanna’s vision is to share the joy and legacy of creating green spaces. The store’s name stems from Rosanna’s husband’s great-granny, Hilda, who lived near the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. Hilda had a love of plants indoors and out and would take cuttings with her wherever she went, creating a lush, green space, however big or small each home would allow.
Granny Hilda’s approach has become the DNA of modern-day Hilda. The choice to curate high-quality items is to ensure that they become legacies of their own, passing from hand to hand, plant to plant. The welcoming space that Rosanna creates with Hilda helps people feel completely comfortable with houseplant care. Indoor plants are for everyone, no matter your level of skill or the kind of space you live in. Some expert guidance and beautifully designed tools will have you well on your way to cultivating the craft of plant care.
