Smith and Gertrude is open and the owners are aiming to bring something new to the burgeoning Edinburgh hospitality scene. Inspired by living, working and travelling in Melbourne, San Francisco, New York and Europe the owners Amy and Duncan Findlater have created a space designed to be enjoyed throughout the day, whether you are simply wanting a cup of coffee and a grilled cheese sourdough whilst browsing their personally curated book collection or if you are staying for the evening and are working your way through their list of over 100 wines from around the world – 20 of which are on by the glass – whilst also enjoying their eclectic record collection. Every item on the menu has been hand selected from top quality local and national suppliers which includes exceptional cheese from producers throughout Scotland, England and Europe, Scottish charcuterie and a delicious range of artisan chocolates handmade here in Edinburgh.

With a firm belief in the pleasures to be derived from enjoying a glass of wine with a well matched cheese Smith and Gertrude offer regularly changing cheese and wine flights; small tasting boards of three cheeses matched with three complementary wines created with a different theme in mind each week. To date California, organic and Australian wines have all been showcased with Italian, Spanish and sparkling on the menu for the coming weeks.

From the custom designed communal table to the small selection of journals to the seasonal coffee selection – everything at Smith & Gertrude is about making customers feel immediately relaxed and at home. As the nights draw in and the days get ever colder this small space nestled in the heart of the old Stockbridge market area is sure to offer you a welcome respite from the elements.
