Stockbridge Ceramics
Stockbridge Ceramics, located at 76 Henderson Row, is more than just a pottery; it’s a vibrant creative hub for contemporary ceramics in the City of Edinburgh. Founded by Andrea Scholes and Geoff Calder, both graduates in Contemporary Ceramics Practice, Stockbridge Ceramics is a testament to the legacy of Janet Adam (1940-2021), the respected Scottish potter, sculptor and founding member of the Scottish Potters Association who established the Adam Pottery at this address more than 40 years ago.

What sets Stockbridge Ceramics apart is its unique combination of a gallery selling contemporary ceramics with a working studio for making and teaching. Situated below a typical 19th-century Edinburgh tenement in what was originally a basement bakery, the pottery’s setting among residential properties, bustling cafes, wine bars and independent shops adds to its charm, drawing in visitors from across the city and beyond.
The gallery serves as a showcase for an extraordinary range of work, themes, and techniques from resident artists. Whether you’re browsing for inspiration or interested in commissioning a bespoke piece, the welcoming atmosphere of the pottery invites you to explore and engage with the fascinating world of contemporary ceramics.
In it’s previous life as the Adam Pottery the venue regularly took part in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, a tradition which continues with Stockbridge Ceramics hosting annual exhibitions and events for both resident and guest artists during the month of August.
Open from Wednesday to Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm, the pottery offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the creativity and craftsmanship of local artisans. So, whether you’re seeking a unique gift, looking to add to your collection, or simply curious to see the magic of how ceramics come to life, Stockbridge Ceramics awaits your visit. Step inside their Henderson Row address and discover the beauty and artistry of contemporary ceramics in the heart of Stockbridge.
