Opening a restaurant in Edinburgh has long been a dream of Jonathan Cook. Now, combining two of his greatest loves, wine and tasty food, he opens Whiskers here in Stockbridge. Jonathan brings with him many years of experience working in the hospitality industry including Albert Roux’s Greywalls in Gullane, One Square at The Sheraton, The Printing Press – George Hotel and most recently Executive chef of the Chop House.
“From the beginning, I had the intention of creating a warm, friendly and homely environment, somewhere where people can comfortably spend many hours with a few coffees, glasses of wine or maybe even a cocktail or two along with some tasty nibbles. My wife, Lorraine, and I are the owners and find it incredibly important to provide a happy work place for our staff so that their enthusiasm is clearly visible for our customers.”

Whiskers opens from 9am serving some light breakfast items including fantastic pastries from Quay Commons in Leith but also a variety of hot options such as their superb baked organic egg with peat smoked salmon. With the help of local Stockbridge coffee roaster Mr Eion they have crafted their own unique blend of coffee available throughout the day. They also serve a selection of lunch items which include vegan options such as organic salads, soup with warm bread and a variety of baguette and sourdough sandwiches.

Whiskers main menu includes sharing and small plates such as platters of cheese, pate/terrine and some of the most amazing Scottish charcuterie from East Coast Cured. The small plates follow no set theme but Jonathan is proud to use fresh ingredients from local suppliers. To top things off they offer a small selection of tasty sweets! At Whiskers there is a very simple approach to wine. A great selection by glass, carafe and bottle, all open and ready to drink. Wines that benefit from aeration will be decanted in advance to ensure you are getting a wine that is at its best. Using Scottish suppliers such as De Burgh, L’art du Vin and Woodwinters who really care about quality, means that they constantly have access to great wines. Whether it be fizz, white, rose, red, sherry or sweet they will have a glass ready for you. All wines are also available by the bottle with regularly changing specials and wines to take home too.
