Netherton Framing is the new name in picture framing in Stockbridge. Having recently opened on St Stephen Street, owner Caroline Barron hopes to bring a fresh, friendly approach to picture framing with a personal, bespoke service.
Situated inside the Crystal Chandelier Company on St Stephen Street, Netherton Framing offers an excellent selection of mount colours and frames. Whether you are looking for something classic, simple, contemporary, or perhaps something a bit different, Caroline is there to guide you through all the options.

The business started 2 years ago in a workshop in Perthshire, near Blairgowrie. After learning her trade near Edinburgh Caroline has since built up an excellent reputation for quality, service and beautiful end results, with clients coming back time and time again. Her expansion to Edinburgh is a sign of exciting new times for Netherton Framing and Caroline believes Stockbridge is the perfect location for her business. For this farmer’s daughter the transition from cows to cobbles has been easy due to the village feel of Stockbridge.

Caroline has a good eye for colour combinations, and considers that in order to create a fully harmonious end result, “framing” extends far beyond the style of the frame itself. “Understanding where the end product will be displayed, what other pictures will be around it, and what the lighting will be like are key considerations. If a mount is required, the right mount can “make” a picture. It should complement and highlight the piece. Factors such as mount width, colour, and number of mounts are so important.” Caroline believes that taking the time to get all this right is the key to her happy customers.

And it’s not just paintings, prints and photos that can be framed. Asked what has been the most unusual thing she has framed her answer is easy. “An old hessian tattie sack! A client found it in her loft after buying the house. She wanted it framed to hang in her sitting room, to link the past to the present. Perthshire is a big potato growing area so it was very fitting. She sent me a picture of it once she’d hung it, it looked great!”

And why the name Netherton? Well it’s where is all began. It’s the name of the building in which the Perthshire workshop is situated, and where Caroline grew up, so it’s a very special name.
