New Year, New Skill ? This January, Speak Out Languages has an exciting new offering! Since 2012, Speak Out has been getting Edinburghers speaking French, German, Italian and Spanish confidently in 10 weeks. From January, you can also be speaking Portuguese!
Why does Speak Out work?
Three main reasons:
1. It’s relevant to learners.
2. The focus is on building confidence to speak.
3. It’s relaxed and enjoyable with no pressure of exams, grammar tests or endless written exercises.
How does Speak Out work?
By focussing on communication and what you CAN say.
So you get the gender wrong? So what. You don’t know the grammatical terms? Who cares.
Can you get your message across? Do people understand what you’re saying? Can you get what you want? And do you have the tools to understand what is being said to you? THAT’s what we want.
Speak Out gives learners the confidence to speak, rather than worrying about everything being absolutely perfect.
Why the Speak Out trips?
Because learning a language is fun. It opens doors to meeting new people, having new travel experiences and discovering new interests. As part of the courses, there is therefore the option to go to Europe to put everything into practice. We order drinks, ask directions, book into hotels, chat in the markets, go to the pharmacy and meet new people.

What if I’m more advanced?
No problem! If you can do the basics and want to have more meaningful conversations, we can help. If your aim is to improve fluency, we can help. If you’re interested in literature, we can help. With 32 courses a week, there’s something for everyone. Our teachers are hand-picked to be the very best, and are expert at helping each student achieve their own goals.
